31 Days of Decorating with Junk: Becky’s Pallet Wall Art

I finally got to see my sister’s house for the first time the other day, and I was so excited to walk in and see a pallet on the wall!  I didn’t come prepared to take pictures, so we’ll have to settle for my cell phone pics.

Isn’t it cute?  Her boyfriend stained it and hung it, and Becky accessorized.

I have been known to compulsively rearrange her decorative accessories, but I waited for her to invite me to do it, this time.

She did a pretty good job on her own – I mean, she *tried* to follow the rules.  Behind the sofa, see how there are three accessories on either side?  She tried to use the “odd numbers” rule.  Except those speakers add a 4th item and ruin it visually.

Plus, I don’t like that symmetry.  Three and three.  I’d rather see 1 big item on one side, and three smaller items on the other side.  That creates balance, without symmetry.

Unfortunately, that shelf was too narrow to add anything very big, so I just mixed things up a bit – frames on one side and candle holder thingies on the other.

And then the frames – these were a lot harder to arrange than I expected.  In the end, we decided to find some nails and hang some frames, just to give us more options.

It’s still not perfect, and looking at it now, I think she should paint that geometric cut out piece (upper right hand corner.)

But overall, I think it’s a great use of that big, blank wall.  Great job, Becky! (And Chris, I suppose he deserves a little credit.)

UPDATE 17 months later - a little redesign, but still just as cute!  (By the way, you should totally follow me on Instagram if you're not already!)
