Turkey Tuesday – Turkey is not bacon!

Turkey is good for a lot of things, and definitely more than just a once a year meal at Thanksgiving!  But there are some things for which turkey is just NOT a good substitute.  Turkey is not -

- bacon.  If you love bacon, don’t bother trying turkey bacon. blech.  It’s like cardboard.
I found this when I was looking for images of turkey bacon.  Click the picture for a link to the website.

- a good gravy starter, from what I hear.  Especially for biscuits and gravy.  Turkey sausage is DELICIOUS, but there’s really not enough fat to make gravy from it.

- a meatloaf.  Plain old, ground turkey is too dry for something like meatloaf.  You have to add some fat, with ground beef, cheese, or something else.  But it’s great in a saucy meal, like Sloppy Joes, tacos, or chili.

So there.  That was probably the most anti-turkey post you’ll ever see from me.  But as I was enjoying my greasy, fatty, regular bacon last night for supper, and thinking about how much better the turkey bacon would be for me, I felt compelled to write this.
And I truly did enjoy that bacon, because today I’m back on a diet.  And turkey will once again help me lose a few pounds.  :)

  1. I 100% agree with you. I love pork and turkey and in some places they can be used interchangeably; however, bacon is definitely not one of those areas. Bacon is from a pig and that's all there is to it.

  2. Katie, so great to (virtually) meet you! Thanks for stopping by my blog and I look forward to reading about your adventures. And, I am so with you on the bacon -- but I cook mine outside in the driveway in an electric skillet to keep from stinking my house up for days with bacon smell! (Doesn't everyone cook in their driveway?)

  3. Haha...we had some bacon with waffles the other night. It was delicious, but I'm so glad it's not an every day thing. ;) Thanks so much for the visit today! :)
