I need a good idea…

…but let’s start on a positive note, shall we?  Here’s a glimpse of a project I did today.  I’ll be showing it off later this week.

Now, I want to finish this project, but I’m just stuck.

I bought this scrapbook paper that I love to put in the doors of my china hutch.  But…I can’t get the pattern to match up where the papers meet, and that drives me nuts.  NUTS I tell you!

So, I thought I’d glaze some cardstock with the same glaze I used on the cabinet, but it came out WAY dark.

So then I tried some burlap (bottom).  No good – the burlap is wrinkly. (iron it?)

I need another idea!  I so want to finish this to show to you!!!  Do you ever have projects like this?  When they just don’t work out how you hoped?  If so….PLEASE tell me about them so I feel a little better…and give me a suggestion for finishing this one!

  1. I have project fails all the time! One time I mod podged some birds on canvas and it turned out so awful that I threw them away. In the morning my husband pulled them out of the (clean) trash can and they were perfect. I think it was some kind of magic!

    Good luck with your project!

I'm featuring a tutorial and giveaway. I'd love it if you stopped by my blog!

  2. I'm so with you! I have been trying and trying to find just the right fabric and ribbon for the curtains I want to make for my bedroom- I've got a very specific idea in mind. Ordered some fabric online, got it and didn't like it. Sent it back. Couldn't find what I wanted, so decided on white canvas with some green accents. Still working on finding just the right color green that I want. Sooo frustrating! As for your china hutch- what about some wood trim on the outside of the doors, the same color as the wood, to hide where the paper doesn't match? Like panes? Not sure if that would really work... Good luck with it!

  3. Katie! Thanks so much for your comment today! It totally made my day. I LOVE that your students are interested in making the tees and jeans. How fun! Can't wait to see what they come up with.

  5. Did you try ironing the burlap with some spary starch? Should make it flatten out and be slightly stiff....easier to work with anyway...
