Corny

It seems a farm boy accidentally overturned his wagon load of corn. The farmer who lived nearby heard the noise.
"Hey Adam!!" the farmer yelled. "Forget your troubles. Come in with us.  Then I'll help you get the wagon up."
"That's mighty nice of you, " Adam answered, "but I don't think Pa would like me to."
"Aw, come on," the farmer insisted.
"Well okay," the boy finally agreed, and added, "But Pa won't like it."
After a hearty dinner, Adam thanked his host. "I feel a lot better now, but I know Pa is going to be real upset."
"Don't be foolish !" the neighbor said with a smile. "By the way, where is he?"
"Under the wagon."

(joke from here)

(And don’t worry – it was a corn pool made for playing, not an overturned wagon, regular wagon, or grain bin.)

  3. How fun! Bet you found some corn in places you didn't think you would! I remember playing in the wagon (I know! How terrible!), and Grandpa dumping beans in on us. (Again I know! How terrible!) Back in the day though, just after retiring draft horses;-), the beans didn't come out so fast or so much. I do remember Mom grumbling when it came time for a bath as she kept hearing little "pings" as the beans kept falling out of us from wherever they had lodged themselves! Thanks for bringing back that memory. Your little guy had fun the safe way, and that is always the best way

  4. Oh, lordy, Katie, my heart jumped into my throat at that first shot, but I KNEW you'd never let the little one be someplace unsafe like a corn bin!! I've been known to play in the corn wagon too, but it was ear corn, not shelled. Same for peanuts and cotton. Wonder we all survived!! He's growing so much.

  8. oh wow, that's something city kids just miss out on. It brings back memories of when we were kids and would play in the truck full of harvested wheat or sunflower seeds...I suppose it was risky but it would only have been a danger if someone opened the shute at the bottom - and we never played in the actual silo or while the truck was being emptied or filled and always under adult supervision. So fun!
