Isaac at 3 Weeks

It’s been 3 weeks already since Isaac officially joined our family.

Although some days (and nights) are harder than others, overall, our transition to a family of four is going pretty smoothly.

Isaac is very mild-mannered, which undoubtedly makes things easier.  He rarely cries, and the smiles that come when he’s sleeping are enough to melt your heart.

Speaking of sleep, we are getting some.  He sleeps next to our bed in a co-sleeper, tightly swaddled, with a white noise machine to soothe him.  He usually wakes twice to nurse, and generally goes right back to sleep afterwards.  Some nights, he grunts all night in his sleep, keeping me awake, but a tighter swaddle seems to be helping with that.

He nurses every 2-3 hours during the day and every 3-5 hours at night.  Although it was initially painful, nursing has been going very well- much easier the second time around.  We had a few days of excessive spit up and some projectile vomiting, which was very worrisome.  Adam had reflux, and I was terrified of going through that again.  In fact, the first time Isaac vomited, I cried. But, I made some adjustments to our nursing routine, and he is spitting MUCH less.

Adam is still embracing his role as big brother!  If he is playing and I ask him to bring me something, he won’t always do it, but he’s still very patient when I’m tending to Isaac.  He has been going to daycare part-time, which helps me out a lot.  He loves to interpret Isaac’s faces and noises, already speaking for him.

I am doing very well so far, too.  Physically, my recovery was a lot easier this time, and emotionally, it’s been easier, too.  Of course, there are times when I feel overwhelmed and times when I’m not sure I know what my baby wants or needs, but in general I am much less anxious and stressed than I was when Adam was a newborn.

  1. LOVE LOVE LOVE these pictures! Both our girls were happiest when they were tightly swaddled. Tall Guy was the best at it, which was good and bad because I could never do it like he did. Oh the good ol' days! Sometimes I would still like TG to wrap them up tight ;-)

So glad things are going rather smoothly for you. The second time around is still different, but you know to trust your instincts and not sweat the small stuff. Save your energy for the biggies.

I gave you a shout in my turkey wrap post! :-)

    Hugs!

  3. Congrats to you for such a beautiful baby! My children were really close when they were younger (still are). I think it may have something to do with us allowing them to be such a big part of the baby's life...like you're doing.
I love your photos...they're beautiful. Glad to hear that you're doing well also.

  9. So so cute! I wanna squeeze him! I want a baby. My husband is getting scared because I've been telling him this too much lately. :) Enjoy your little sweeties.

  10. Your baby boys (both of them) are so handsome...actually pretty. You don't have to tell your husband I said his boys were pretty. :)

    Sleep well.

  11. Oh, what adorable boys! I am glad you are recovering well and settling in... and also glad to hear that at least some things are easier the second time around! Hope that will be true in our family as well :)

  12. They are absolutely the sweetest little boys ever! So precious!

It is so encouraging to read about your adjustment to number two. I know you are being honest and aren't just saying it's a cakewalk, but to hear that recovery went smoother-nursing was a bit easier--etc, etc---does my heart good. I am nervous for the second to arrive, but enthused to! I am so enjoying 'reading along' about your life adventures. You are blessed with such a sweet family.

    All the best to you!

  14. Oh my goodness! He is Soooooooooooooooo cute! I LOVE these pics!!! I can NOT believe it has already been 3 weeks. In some ways it probably seems like it flies by but in other ways it probably seems like time slows down (owey nipples taking their time to heal and what not). Way to go on the nursing! That one of both your boys is adorable!

  18. I never did say congrats:) He's beautiful!

I'm glad to hear things are moving along well. It's always hard switching up the routine and adding a second person to that mix i'm sure is dizzying at times (I both look forward to and dread that when it does happen for us).

I wanted to ask what you changed in yoru nursing routine that helped the spit up. I'm trying to soak in as much as i can now so that when #2 comes along, we can try the BF thing again and hope it works out better than it did last time.

  19. I'm so glad to hear that things are going well and that it's easier this time around. Your little guys are both so adorable. Sounds like nursing is going well. That's always such a relief.

  20. Congrats, again.
Those days seem so long ago now.
Enjoy the baby time--which is so hard to do when you are in the throws of spit-up and diapers and night-time feedings.
